Planning The Move
1. Select your moving day Check with your property manager about restrictions on moving day.
2. Reserve a moving truck Call 2-4 weeks in advance. Ask for rates on rentals and milage; advertisied specials can be misleading.
3. Measure your new apartment Measure the clearance in doorways, stairwells and elevators to make sure you can get large furniture through. Measure floorspace and windows.
4. Get rid of unwanted items A. Hold a yard sale. B. Donate to charity.

Accounts & Records
1. Report your change of address A. Postal Service - use the change of address card found there. B. Credit card companies - when you next pay your bill. C. Magazine and Newspapers - some require 4-6 weeks notice. D. Dept of Motor Vehicles - If you've moved to a new state, get a new driver's license and registar your vehicle(s) in that state.
2. Get copies of A. Legal, medical, and insurance records. Put them in a safe place. B. School records - or have them transfered to the new school. C. Pharmacy prescriptions - or have them transfered to a local pharmacy.
3. Cancel or Close A. Memberships to any clubs or facilities. B. Bank accounts - Open new accounts in your new community. Transfer the automatic payments / deposits and order new checks.
4. Call the phone company A. Transfer your old number or get a new one. B. Call your long distance provider to sign up for a plan.

Preparing For Moving Day
1. Have essential on hand A. Cash, credit cards, checkbook, and a phone card - for incidentals and emergencies during the move. B. Pack a special box of things you will need immediately upon arrival - toiletries, medicine, first aid kit, and a phone.
2. Remember to Service your car if you are traveling a long distance to your new home.
After The Move
1. Locate and write down phone numbers of: Nearest hospital, police and fire station.
2. Purchase Renters insurance if necessary.
3. Registar to vote Call your local board of elections.
