On opposing sides of the Delaware River, Lambertville (NJ) and New Hope (PA) both have a country charm and a bustling
culture. Just 45 minutes from Philadelphia and 1.5 hours from Manhattan make them both popular tourist destinations for cityfolk
who want to escape the daily grind.
Lambertville, with its tree-lined streets, Victorian houses and Federal row homes and the graceful lines of its
church spires continue to greet the eye as they did in the 1800s.
The town features inviting shops, including art galleries, antique stores, unique crafts and specialties, bed and breakfasts, inns, and restaurants.
It is commonly known as "The Antique Capital of New Jersey," and it certainly lives up to the title. Antique collectors will find everything from 18th-century furniture and decorative arts to 50's Modern.
New Hope can be best described as having all of the relaxing qualities of the country, but with a progressive art
deco flair. The streets are usually filled with a diverse gathering of people, including townsfolk, students and
tourists. And, it's well known for being a popular place for bikers to rest, after a long country rides along the river.
Many city dwellers like to escape to this rural community, as the pace of life is much slower here, yet the culture
here is very strong. The streets are home to a number of quaint shops, featuring antiques, music, arts & crafts and
novelties. The town also has a robust nightlife, with numerous restaurants for casual or formal dining, sidewalk
cafes, a theatre and several bars and nightclubs. And if you want to stay the weekend, there are a plethora of local
inns, bed and breakfasts or guest houses, located around town.
You will note the vividly colorful pony statues scattered throughout the city, lending to the charm of this artsy /
country reputation.
